Case Study Progress August 2011

Since my last post about starting a site from scratch a lot has been happened. Pretty much most of my times was/is consumed by those events. As things are beginning to settle down, I thought I use the opportunity to inform about the work done, and plans on moving this forward. In this update I am including all the images, so please click on them to make them larger to see the full information.

Work done thus far

The website now sits with a gleaming Inspire by WooThemes theme. The layout is an extremly simple one with a featured slider that will eventually show three posts/points and call to action button. Underneath which is a bit of text. The website when I first started has some link building done to it, but obviously I left it alone for over a month, during which we had a Pr update! so the website is now a Pr 2 (go figure) and has a total of 11 links, pointing to the home page.

Further more after managing to put in this little effort, the website has now reached the dizzy height of 98!  The rest of the keywords or not even in the top 1000, not surprising as no content has been put up, apart from the home page. I have installed fresh analytics for the domain, and the proof is in the picture :) The one visitor so far is myself (obviously).

I also went ahead and signed up to the affiliate program in question. Last time I was asked to list the Plugins that I intend on using as well so here they are:-

  • Akismet
  • All in one SEO
  • Backup buddy
  • Gravity Forms
  • Hana Code Insert
  • Login Lock Down
  • Quick Page Post Redirect
  • Simple Google Sitemap xml
  • Wp-Recaptcha
  • Wp Table

There will be of course others, as of now these will serve the basic purpose nicely. I placed an order for and received 30 pages of 500 word content. Each content will form a separate page, and then will be used to fill in the following spreadsheet

Each content was ordered in such a way that it mentions three keywords 2 times,it is my hope to rank one page for multiple keywords (there is some overlapping of keywords from the 30 pages). As soon as a page is published its corresponding keywords and url will be filled in the spreadsheet. I have developed about 14 different and unique back link building methods/tools. Which as far as i am aware I have not seen anyone use or do. Depending on the competition and type of site, I decide very early in the project, on the backlink methodology that I will use.

Ofcourse its not written in stone, but my final back link profile should get 90% of its links where the source mentions above. Off the 14 methods I have Identified 4 that I feel are going to be very effective with this kind of site. These 4 methods are:- S1, SL1, Jp1, FJ2 The numbers correspond to the derivatives of that methods that can be used. I have all this documented and then choose which method and which derivative I want to go with.

There is not a single site that I have where I have used all 14 of my methods, for that matter no site of mine has more then 6 methods used. This kind of judgement has come from experience and getting a feel of the algorithm (until it kicks you in the tender areas). I should also point out that as soon as a page is published that It wont get all the backlinks. They will be done gradually, and the order and schedule will be entirely dependant on the keyword. The basic basic ones are the first three, which are BM= bookmarking, AD:- Article directory (ezine etc etc), AMR (Article marketing robot) I might well be removing AMR from my tools shortly but right now for this site I will use it (hopefully sparingly). The remaining 4 method will be brought in to add punch to the backlink building, sometimes I put the punch in first and then the spammy links to cover my tracks.

In this case S1 will form 60% of my punch and will be used at the same time as the first three methods. Use of SL1, JP1 and FJ2 will be entirely dependant on where the resultant keywords end after the first barrage of links/effort.

There is ofcourse an accompanying Microsoft project file for this particular project. That has domain and keywords written all over the place too much for me to black out lol so no pictures of that. That project file is fluid, as it will change as the project will evolve but milestones set within are rigid. Tracking this project is a bit more complicated as ofcourse I am targeting globally not just UK and USA. I have as a result created a project in AWR (Advanced web rankings) tracking multiple search engines. The best indicator will be the traffic :)

Going Forward

Having received the 30 pieces of content I will be placing the 30 on to the site. I do have a list of 65 keywords that I want to target, however I have chosen the 30 most profitable keywords and aim to rank 6 of them in the top ten by then end of the month.

What ever income this site will generate will go towards getting even higher quality of content (think text broker lever 4) and refining the site such as putting in a kick ass logo giving away prizes. I initially said that I would set up a face book fan page, however am not fully convinced that is the way to go just yet! The page is set up, the twitter account is ready to rock and roll. I will be delaying the launch of the social media aspect of the site, until my site has consistent traffic.

This is predominately becuase surge of social media mentions should coincide with traffic, and I THINK google realizes that, and measures this somehow. So If I was to suddenly get 1500 facebook fans now (without traffic) I think the impact of social media is then limited. Ofcourse I have no way to test (effectively and impartially) it but this is just me thinking..

Just reading this today, what an awesome post!!

Really like the way you have systems in place and strategise everything. If there is one advice I would give to peeps it is to create a strategy and system for their sites.

It is something I have only started doing recently, and I’m no where near finished in creating them, but getting there!

Oh very nice, i always love reading case studies and very nearly missed this one! One thing that did catch my eye, is that you say you’re planning on removing AMR from your tools and was curious about the reason why. Is it not giving results for you anymore or …?

    Cheers :)

Only just come across your site and finding the posts really interesting. How is your test site getting on now, did you get your top 6 keyphrases ranked top 10?
