Article Marketing is DEAD long live…?

In the past year I have learned to reply less and less on article marketing, but is article marketing dead? Can you really get rankings from Article marketing? The answer is not really straight forward. Article marketing to a large extent is not as powerful as it once was and effectiveness trend only shows signs of it going down hill. But that is becuase 90% of people who do article marketing do it incorrectly. I will hopefully in the next few paragraphs show you the following:-

1. What should you expect from Article Marketing

2. Making Your Distributed Articles Go further

3. Avoiding the pitfalls and dispensing some myths.

4. Recommended Service.

What should you expect from Article Marketing

  • Get minimum of 100 links per article distribution (indexed links)
  • Wide IP diversity
  • In content Links
  • Varying Anchor Text Links

The above is all I expect from half decent Article marketing service. I dont go in thinking that article marketing is going to be the solution to my backlink building needs I dont think that it will help me rank for the tough keywords, but it is a part of the puzzle and depending on how you use it it can be an important player in your backlink profile.

Article Marketing Review how to get the most from Article MarketingMaking Your Distributed Articles Go further

That is the trick really is’nt it? A distributed article on an given domain is basically a new url. Once indexed it carries a certain amount of weight, and the trick is to add more weight to the url. Making that url more powerful by pointing more links towards that. In theory this sounds perfect but HOW do you actually do it?

The method is use an article distribution service of your choice (or use my recommended ones). Where allowed spin the body, and there are various different methods and school of though on what is an effective spin, however I will leave that alone for now and say aim towards 80% uniqueness from your spun article. That is to say that each article will be ATLEAST 80% different from its predecessor.

Hot Tip:- Use Nested spin, with sentence by sentence and word for word spinning

Do not as a rule spin the title, or if you do spin the title then leave one portion of the article Say one small line completely unchanged through out. This line must be unique and only found in your article.

Once you have your spun article (or done via some system) you then set it to distribute. Then comes the following steps:-

  • After distribution of your article, wait for 1 week.
  • Use Scrapebox to scrape for the article title or the unchanged sentence.
  • Gather the article urls, filter out any duplicate urls and duplicate domains (again in scrapebox)
  • Gather the first 100 article urls, if your number is smaller than 100 then grab what you have.
  • Use a bookmarking service, like bookmarking demon or IM automator to bookmark each of the urls. Where possible gather the urls of the bookmarks
  • Use a general automated software, like AMROBOT and SENUKE Preferably ALL of the mentioned. And use them to point links towards the hundred Article Links. Use Senuke to build 30 profiles (30 separate accounts) Create ALL web 2.0 properties with EACH of the 30 accounts and then add 2 to 3 articles per account. They can be the same article ideally 2 different ones spun. First one should not have any links on them, once posted wait a week before adding 2nd or 3rd article with links. EACH article should contain 4 links. I will do a detailed review of the method  during my coming review of SENUKE.
  • Gather ALL the urls, the reason why I picked the two software above is that you are able to quickly check and acquire live links. This number should be few hundred to low thousands in terms of urls.
  • Buy an Xrummer blasting service say 100K profile links and blast them to all of the urls that you have gathered.
  • The links where you pointed your Xrummer blast check after one week to see which ones are indexed, then do another Scrapebox fast poster comment blast. (varying anchor texts, not ambiguous ones but related to the topic at hand)

The method outlined above will result in most sites gaining significant ground. Each article correctly distributed should cost you between 100 to 150 dollars. Cheaper if you have the tools yourself, but will also take one person about a month to see through from end to end.  Results is an article marketing method which will yield results and it forces the perception of link authority.

Pitfalls and Myths Explained

  • Dupe Content, Yes it is real but not to a level that most will think it. I would not use any of the articles used in the method above on my OWN sites, my sites must contain original articles which have not been distributed heavily just in select RELEVANT places. To future proof you links correctly spin your articles, having an article that makes sense will mean that any advancement google will make in their detection algorithm will not effect your links. Time spent now will save you lots more in the future
  • Link Velocity, This is topic lots of people will harp on about. In truth it is not an issue unless you are planning on adding few million links in one go. I would not worry about this, I would however use the method described to a website/page continuously for 2-3 months. Link velocity can have an impact but only very few people know how to use link velocity to destabilize a site, and those people would know the above method anyway.
  • Being too greedy, this method is not about quantity of links its about getting a reasonable number of links with a wide range of ip’s and giving them a big juice and in essence creating them as authority links.
  • This will get you in sandbox. If I say it once then I will say it a thousand times, a site fluctuation does not necessarily mean sandbox. This term was really taken on by seo gurus who know jack shit about seo. Just build your links and keep doing it, nothing is going to happen. Whether you are in page 2 or 200 your wont be making any sales anyway. Dont worry about rankings until you on top 10.
  • Using the same sources over and over. Say you article was distributed to 10 places and your links are pointed to you money site. Will you repeat the process? I would advice you not to. I happen to think  if one site gives out two different links to the same url then the power of the two links are not necessary equal. Use the same method but point it to a different url of the money site and that seems to be acceptable.
  • Anchor text does not matter. It bloody well does, KEEP THE ANCHOR TEXT RELEVANT through out, even in XRUMMER BLAST do a relevant anchor text.

Article Marketing Summary And Recommended Services

The Two Primary services that are recommended are Unique Article Wizard and Article Ranks. They both have their advantages and disadvantages of course, you cant do proper spinning in my opinion with UAW, which I think does not help their own cause Their distribution however is fantastic and there are tips and tricks to make it better (not sure if anyone needs them here lol). And I am not convinced about Article Ranks distribution power so much so that I dont really use it (but I mention it here as its miles better then other shit that is floating around like Brad’s Seolinkvine lol). I am testing other but so far These two are the only ones striking out.

A lot of imaginative stuff can be done with article marketing, but hard work is really a key ingredient. Dedicated time and effort needs to be put in for each syndication to really get the biggest bang form your hard earned buck. Do I use article marketing today sure, I use this as a filler service. They give a 3d appearance to my link profile and add authority as well. Are they enough to rank for the TOUGH keywords no definitely not, but they do HELP. One last thing, If you like the article then do use the social buttons :D

So if article marketing is your third most important method of link building, what is method number one and two?

Its not third or even 4th most powerful tech. And I am certainly not about to give away those secrets just yet

Would you recommend UAW to boost some Web 2.0 sites? Or would you just send them to the money site? I don’t really have the resources to do the rest of the stuff.

      September 27, 2011 at 5:24 pm #

I reckon web 2.0 should be fine (i am not sure if they have a rule about owning domain first) But I do remember doing it a few times and that should not be a problem. Its a lot of work to do for a web 2.0 (must be bullet proof web 2.0)
I am curious as to why you think why you dont have the resources to do the rest of the stuff? Its just hard work that is all, if you dont have senuke then you can build web 2.0′s yourself will take you longer so maybe you do it on a smaller scale to test the effectiveness yourself.
But the reason why I chose to explain this method was becuase this will work around your budget and works no matter what stage of the internet marketing ladder you are on.

Ok, do you consider private blog networks and services such as BuildMyRanks as article marketing? If so, I would love to know link types 1-4 because private blog networks work!! :)

Private blog network i would consider as equal to good article marketing (depends on networks) BUT I DONOT like BMR yes it kind of works now, but whole system is geared so you invest and constantly invest money into system.. That is not real ranking and backlink stragedy

      • September 29, 2011 at 4:02 am #

But aren’t UAW and AR also designed to get you to pay them a monthly fee as well? Regarding betterlink building strategies, I think you are hinting at hosting your own sites/blog and linking them to your money sites. And surely article marketing sites are better than web 2.0 link wheels, right? :)

          1. Yes UAW and AR have monthly subscriptions.
          2. Not hinting at hosting your own blogs, every one and their dog are doing this but so far only 1 service that I know of do it properly. So I think its hit and miss mostly miss with that kind of thing.
          3. I am not saying its a clear cut thing, I am advocating using web 2.0 AND article marketing. With Article Marketing at front you get the added benefit of in content links, over a wider range of ip’s. You simply dont get that with web 2.0′s
          4. Link Wheels are DEAD… :)

          • September 30, 2011 at 2:54 am #

Link wheels are dead? Ok. By web 2.0 do you mean Squidoo and HubPages type websites?

Yeah I don’t have SENuke. If there are 100 articles, building Web 2.0s by hand to each of those articles could take a while. Would each set of 100 articles be targeting one keyword?

I think I need to get some more profitable keywords. I’ve been working on getting my existing niche sites to number one and when they get there they don’t make that much money.

I’ve not signed up for UAW yet but its on my list.

The reason I said number ” 100 ” was becuase If you did it this way then it would definitely make you rank quicker, nothing to stop you dating at 1/4 scale and see what kind of movement you get.

Web 2.0′s you dont need to build by hand other cheaper monthly software do exists like “SEROBOT” Which are cheaper. Will do the job all be it just for web 2.0, those SEROBOT is fast catching up

“Do not as a rule spin the title”

Sorry Mansoor, but thats wrong. I’ve done tests myself and know for a fact that spinning the title DOES help. It helps the number of posts which are indexed without any help, and also seemed to have a better affect on the rankings (although its very difficult to measures).

“Are they enough to rank for the TOUGH keywords no definitely not”

You shouldnt use any single form of link building on its own for any campaign. You’re best off with a mix of different link types. That said, article marketing takes many different forms, and probably could be used on its own to rank a site. These are all a form of article marketing:
Public blog networks (like those you mentioned)
    Private blog networks
    Guest blogging
    Most “Web 2.0″ sites
    Article directories

“but hard work is really a key ingredient”

Thats the key ingredient to any sort of success.

Im suprised you rank UAW higher than AR. I’ve tried UAW a few times and not been at all impressed with it. AR on the other hand is a decent service and one I used quite a bit on the old credit system (had a fair few blogs plugged into it), however now they have restricted the free accounts I dont use them as much and have shifted my blogs to a different network. I still use them as I have a few thousand credits left, but Im restricted to 5 sites at a time.

      Hi Shane,

Sorry this got flagged as spam lol.. anyway The reason why I dont spin title is for Tracking article purposes, not for any seo benefit. For my studies it shows that if the article/page where the article resides on is above a certain number in terms of originality then it gets indexed easier.

But that the only reason why I mentioned do not spin titles is that it makes it easier for people to track how many times that article is syndicated. That is why in the same sentence i also stated that “if you do spin the title then leave one portion of the article….”

I am not advocating any SINGLE form of link building, in fact I actively encourage varied forms. The key in understanding the risk for each. This article was not about getting number of links, but rather the approach of getting few links and making them powerful.

My thinking is that to work hard and get few links will serve you better then trying all sorts of links to begin with.

Public blog networks (like those you mentioned)
      Private blog networks
      Guest blogging
      Most “Web 2.0″ sites
      Article directorie

From the above list I consider the following as as “Article Marketing”:-

      Most “Web 2.0″ sites
      Article directories
Public blog networks (like those you mentioned)
      Private blog networks

So the approach for me is that IF I decide I want some sort of article marketing for a page or a project I will then chose which type of article marketing will work for this site, and then choose which variations of that. I am not a fan of Private blog networks, and have tested them all I think. Found benefits but not enough to justify the cost.

I do not consider Guest blogging as form of article marketing, When done correctly it is incredibly useful and powerful. The amount of time it takes to find reputable blogs with active traffic relevant to my sector willing to accept an article or do a review and negotiating the cost or trade is huge.

Certainly to get one very good link from guest blogging I would need to put in the same amount of work as outlined above. The other form of course is press release but the quality of links is directly proportional to the service you get.

“but hard work is really a key ingredient” Yes it’s stating the obvious, but I would wager not many people take the time and effort to really do article marketing correctly. And will look at the steps outlined and consider that too much work.

The reason why UAW is ranked higher is becuase you can reuse the same article after a month or so and plug it into a different category and get more links. I have about 1000 credits or something from AR, I never got too much use out of it to be perfectly honest, there were some gains, but the system before where you could select every category under the sun meant lots of abuse and now its too too restricted for my liking. I do use AR now but sparingly. If people are aware of other article marketing service new or otherwise then let me know. I am happy to try them out and post reviews.

To be honest, I just wont bother doing a review for BMR the jit of it becuase. It is a system where you the use have to constantly put unique content into their sites to keep them afloat. With the idea then a link stay on home page sure it does but what happens when it rolls off? its useless?
If you publish a link and it goes on site A after a white it rolls of the home page what then you publish again it it comes on site A again? bearing in mind you already have an indexed link from before is this link now more valuable or less valuable then first?
You wasting money in my opinion in systems like this.
          1) you either hire a writer (wast of money this unique content will be better for your site!!)
          2) You do yourself even bigger waste what is the point??
3)You pay monthly fee not knowing if a domain looses pr will they just drop the domain? If so what happens to the links you have already made on it?

As you can tell basically I dont like BMR linkvana or anything similar… Waste of money and time. Lost of people will bump it as they offer reoccurring commission, and few that i know bump it publicly but dont use it on their own sites lol..

“The reason why I dont spin title is for Tracking article purposes”

I have found that putting a random string in the article helps with finding this kind of distribution. I would probably put something along the lines of “keyword{1zx|2xc|3cv|4vb|5bn}”
Then I would just need to search for “keyword1zx” etc and find them all. Doesnt leave as much of a footprint.

“I do not consider Guest blogging as form of article marketing”
Guest blogging is article marketing though, besides the fact you have to find a site to post it on, its not really any different to the other forms of article marketing. Its not that time consuming if you do it properly ;)

“The other form of course is press release”
Yup, forgot to add that to the list, although most of the sites do not give a link back but will instead display the url without a link on it.

“but hard work is really a key ingredient”
I was agreeing with you on this point :)

“you can reuse the same article”
You can with AR? I’ve reused the same articles for some sites several times, usually when distribution levels have been low and I’ve thought I could get a few more publications out of it.

“its too too restricted for my liking”
Me to, I dont like having a limit of 5 domains, but refuse to pay the $90 per month for it.

I Tried it your way of tracking, and then did not use it I am not sure why have to find my notes on this. I will have to disagree about guest bloging though, as when I guest blog each of the sites get a completely unique hand written un spun article. That is why it takes a lot longer, as well as the various obvious negotiations that entail with that.

I have always said I use Pr web as a press release of choice I have not found any other that offer better service. I get good links of them 80% are with my anchor text. If you compare article re-distribution pound for pound same length article and same sector the redistribution with UAW is better.

Excellent information…with lots of good tips and pointers.

I would agree that for tough keywords, you need a better strategy!! However, for some low competition keywords, article marketing can still work wonders.

One other thing – I am finding nowadays that article marketing works much better for subpages than it does for homepages.

I also recommend UAW and AR…guess great minds think alike ;-)

I believe that article and content marketing is still the most powerful marketing technigue to get conversions.
We love to read content. It is just the channels of distribution that changed dramatically – social media is now king.

Well put togther post. I have tried a similar method not to long ago but not as full on as this. I found I got a nice ranking increase but then my rankings went back down again – I am not sure why. Maybe it was the xrummer provider – I think this was the problem – but I am not sure where to get good xrummer providers from. I think a lot of the providers use rubbish lists – I know with these type of providers only a certain percentage of links will stick but I am thinking some providers are better than others, but maybe I am wrong. Most providers I am looking at seem to charge $150 for 100k unverified profiles – I guess you are not using these type of providers going by the budget you layout for this project.
